Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors gave his opinion on the recent fight that occurred on Saturday between the Lakers and Rockets during Lebron debut game at the Staples Center. Suspension were handed out to Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, and Brandon Ingram for their involvement in the scuffle. Rondo received three game suspension, Paul will sit two games and Ingram received the most with 4 game suspension. \
Green, via Mercury News gave his take on the situation:
“That was garbage,” Green said. “I’m never in favor of guys losing money. But I got suspended in the NBA Finals for attempting to punch somebody. Guys punching each other are getting two games or three games. I attempted to punch somebody, and not in the face, either.”
“It seems like a little bit of a double standard going around this thing,” Green told Bay Area News Group. “That’s just me, though. I could be wrong. I don’t got all the answers.
Green feels like their punishment was a slap on the wrist being that he was suspended for a less egregious act during the NBA Finals which likely cost the Warriors the chance to repeat as champions and eventually lose the series to Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Green failed to leave out that his suspension was due to an accumulation of flagrant fouls he received during the season and the league retroactively gave him a flagrant foul after reviewing the play where he and Lebron got into it. Green swung in Lebron’s direction after he took offense to Lebron stepping over him while he was on the ground.
When a player commits flagrant fouls, points are assigned to that player. A flagrant one is one point and flagrant two is two points. Once a player acrrues 5 points a suspension is handed down by the league office. This makes Green’s accusation of a double standard a little off since his situation and the incident two nights ago aren’t the same.
