According to the Courier Journal, Louisville TE Kamari De’Lon Averett was arrested Monday night after he pointed a gun at his girlfriend’s head and threatened to kill her. Prior to this incident, Everett started four games this year for Louisville. Probably safe to say he won’t be playing there anymore.
The 6’7″, 270 pound, sophomore pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning to charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and domestic violence. Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino immediately announced that Averett will no longer be with the team moving forward:
Kemari Averett has been suspended immediately from all football activities per further investigation…
He will not have access to our facility or be involved in any team activities during this suspension.
Now, according to police, Averett is denying that he knows the woman and he’s been claiming that he’s not the father of her child either.
Apparently, Averett traveled to his baby mama’s house on Sunday night to study and he left his backpack there. The next day, the woman returned his backpack with no laptop in it. The woman said she didn’t know there was even a computer in the bag in the first place, then Averett placed a gun on the left side of her temple and said:
I will f*cking kill you.
I’ll have my people looking for you…
I should pistol whip your a**for running your mouth.
Unsurprisingly, Averett also has a bit of a rap sheet—specifically involving crimes of “holding people at gunpoint” too. Averett spent three months in juvenile detention back in 2014 for stealing someone’s cell phone at gunpoint. Then, Averett violated the terms of his bond for the 2014 incident, and spent another nine days in Fulton County Jail.
The Court set Averett’s bail at $10,000. He’s not permitted to have any contact with the woman or any firearms either. The judge probably should have thrown the baby in there just to be safe too. Needless to say, Averett likely will not be permitted to have any contact with a football field every again in his life either.
Honestly, Petrino is going to have to explain this recruit because this entire situation seems like it could have been avoided from a football stand point. All this for one laptop Kemari? Really? Flip the pages to see Averett’s Inmate details.
