HBO was the signature channel for boxing for decades, but their decline can be traced to when Floyd Mayweather made the move from HBO to Showtime.
From that time on HBO just didn’t make boxing a priority anymore. With changes in management, it didn’t come as a surprise that they decided to get out of the business altogether.
It is sad that their last card was one that people probably didn’t watch because they were either watching Lomachenko on ESPN or the replay of Wilder-Fury on Showtime. It was sort of symbolic on how far HBO had fallen.
But, it was a great ride and flip the page for a recap of their 45 years in boxing and Jim Lampley’s tearful farewell.
