The Minnesota Timberwolves shocked fans after firing head coach Tom Thibodeau after beating the LA Lakers by 22 today.
It came as a shock to players as well according to reports.
The Timberwolves were in the playoffs last year and missed playoffs in 2016, Thibodeau’s only season aa head coach not making playoffs. Now, they have to replace him.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Timberwolves are considering Fred Hoiberg and former NBA player Chauncey Billups, who is currently an ESPN analyst.
Billups has never coached a team and last played in 2013 for the Detroit Pistons. Hoiberg, on the other hand, has coaching experience but not a great record. Hoiberg last coached the Chicago Bulls, Thibodeau’s former team, from 2015 until 2018 when he was fired. His first year, Bulls missed the playoffs, their first time in eight seasons and he was considered the worst coach in the 2017 season. His record 115-155.
Maybe Timberwolves should stay away from former Bulls coaches and taking a shot with a former NBA player hasn’t always been a bad move as we seen throughout history.
Mark Jackson is still avaliable I might add.
