It’s been a disappointing season for the Boston Celtics.
Despite being 5th (38-26) in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics are 3-7 in their last 10 games and have struggled with inconsistency all season.
A large part of the Celtics storyline this season has revolved around the impending free agency of Kyrie Irving.
The constant chatter surrounding Irving’s free-agent decision has created quite the distraction around the Celtics this season.
Coupling the off-court distractions with their poor play in recent weeks, the Celtics find themselves in an uneasy position as they head toward the playoffs.
It’s been a rough go for the Celtics since the All-Star break with losses to the likes of the Chicago Bulls and the Raptors who they lost to by 23 last week.
For Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, the feeling around the team isn’t good right now.
In fact, he calls the current state of the Celtics locker room,
‘toxic.’
Speaking with Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Brown expounds on his comments saying,
“To be honest, I’m not feeling good at all. The losing, it’s not a good feeling. I’m not too good about that.”
Further saying,
“Because right now it’s not good. It’s toxic. I can’t really point out one thing. I don’t have all the answers. I’m just going to try to be part of the change. I’m going to try to do my best. That’s all I’ve got to say.”
Brown, who has been coming off the bench in recent weeks, has been one of the few constants for the up and down Celtics this season.
This season, Brown is averaging nearly 13 points and 4 rebounds coming off the bench.
One of the best defenders in the NBA, Brown says with respect to if the Celtics can turn things around before the playoffs,
“I still believe. I think we’ve got time to get it together. I’m very optimistic and very positive and think that we will…”
and,
“We keep talking about it. I’m just going to try to do it with my play, come out and play hard and try to change the atmosphere and this environment.”
Well, we will get to find out tonight as they take on…the Golden State Warriors.
Can the Celtics figure it out?
They say there’s no time like the present, so we’ll find out soon.
