We’re not sure if it’s the strange NN logo on the hat, or the fact that he looks like the guy posting up at the local YMCA weekly pick up game. But there’s something about Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse that leaves him emotionally attached to seemingly the entire country of Canada.
On Saturday night the newly crowned NBA Champion Head Coach decided he would be bringing his musical talents to the most popular outdoor venue in the city – the Budweiser stage, where he joined one of the biggest Canadian groups – The Arkells.
The Arkells are one of the more popular “homegrown” bands on the Canadian landscape. The band originated 30 minutes down the road from Toronto in Hamilton, Ontario. The Arkells have always enjoyed their sports connection with their hometown. In fact, every time their local Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL score a touchdown you’ll hear The Arkells “Ticats are Hummin'” blasting over the loud speaker.
Adding this, as well as the fact that Nurse has signed on to coach the Canadian National Team at the 2019 FIBA World Cup he might be well on his way to becoming a national hero. Canada’s own Gregg Popovich if you will.
