Meek Mill is taking the phrase “man of many hats” to a new level. Meek, who is already a successful rapper and involved with criminal justice reform, announced Wednesday in an interview with Business Insider that he is now co-owner of Lids.
“And, Lids, I’ve been shopping at Lids my whole life, wearing hats, fitted, of course, fitted hats and caps, all types of hats. In our culture, it’s been a big thing. So, it was something I ain’t have to think twice about and always believed in, that it’ll work.”
Along With Being co-owner, Meek will serve as head of Lids creative strategy and wants to involve hip hop culture into Lids more. Come August that plan will come to fruition as Meek and Lids will be releasing a limited edition hat line.
In the interview, Meek credits watching rapper and business man Jay Z go about his businesses as a reason why he’s starting to build a business foundation for himself by saying
“Basically, I’ve seen Jay-Z, and then I’ve watched other artists who came up around his time. He actually built something. He built businesses, and he built things that made him become the man who he is, that we could call a billionaire guy. He built that, and I watched that, and I studied that. That’s why I’m working the way I’m working now to build a foundation for myself too.”
Meek wants this to be his boss year and wants to get ownership in a lot of the things he’s involved in. With the new ownership, he’s off to a great start.
