Kevin Durant suffered an Achilles injury during game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night.
The Warriors were able to escape with a one point win, but the loss of Durant has dominated the headlines.
Durant returned to the Warriors after missing the last 33 days with a strained calf muscle. His return was in doubt during the NBA Finals given his progress during rehabilitation.
Well Durant did make his return and seemed on his way to terrific night in helping the Warriors. All that went by the way side after Durant went down.
After the game Warriors GM Bob Myers confirmed that he indeed had suffered an Achilles injury that would require an MRI.
According to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was in shock over the injury.
Nichols reports that as she walked out with Kerr after game 5 and Kerr in shock continued to repeat to her,
“The doctors told us he [Durant] couldn’t get more hurt.”
The explanation seems strange given that Durant had suffered a calf injury and any aggravation of the injury could lead to something much worse.
Unfortunately for Durant it appears the worst has happened as we await word on the extent of Durant’s injury.
Meanwhile, Durant’s injury sent shock waves through the league with tremendous ramifications for not only the NBA Finals, but the impending free agency period set to begin in a few short weeks.
Including when it comes to sports betting in New Jersey and other establishments in deciding who will win the Finals and KD’s free agent decision.
Durant’s injury will be the biggest storyline in the NBA heading into the summer.
