Kobe Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, confirmed on social media yesterday that his and their daughter Gianna’s funeral will take place on February 24 at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The date was picked due to No. 2 being Gianna’ jersey number, 24 being Kobe’s number in the NBA, and 20 being the number of seasons he played with the Lakers. Many thought STAPLES wouldn’t be big enough for the funeral but it looks like everything worked out. The LA Memorial Coliseum was another rumored option.
UFC 247 is also taking place in Houston this weekend with the main event being Jon Jones vs Dominick Reyes. UFC President Dana White recently spoke with TMZ Sports and revealed that there will be a Kobe tribute. He added that Kobe was an investor in UFC and helped the company make 2019 their best year ever.
In addition to the UFC investment, Kobe was also investing in Body Armor, which is the official energy drink of the company. A distribution deal was also locked in between Kobe and UFC the Wednesday before he passed. White concluded by praising how great of a person Kobe was and he was right on with his comments.
