The biggest gaming retailer, GameStop, is trying whatever they can to remain open during the Coronavirus pandemic. GameStop said in a statement “Due to the products we carry that enable and enhance our customers’ experience in working from home, we believe GameStop is classified as essential retail and therefore is able to remain open during this time.” Thus the retailer is planning to remain open in the immediate future. Considering that the term “essential” is generally reserved for first responders, shelters, and medical personal, the statement comes off as greedy at worst, and a stretch at best.
GameStop also released the following statement about how it’s attempting to protect itself from a shopper or worker contracting the virus.
