Yesterday, PBC rolled out a schedule of a host of fights they will hold for the remainder of the year. On that schedule is two-time WBC super-middleweight champion, David Benavidez versus Roamer Alexis Angulo.
Benavidez, 22-0 with 19 knockouts is a come forward, stalking relentless fighter who uses his size and activity to break his opponents down. There have been talks of a potential matchup with Canelo Alvarez, or a unification bout with Caleb Plant, both of which would be interesting fights. For now, we get Roamer Alexis Angulo.
Benavidez and Angulo were scheduled to face each other in April, but the fight was canceled amidst coronavirus closures. When asked about the coronavirus and its impact on his training, David commented:
“It was a little difficult getting this camp started because – Seattle was the epicenter of the pandemic. So, the number one key was to stay home, stay safe, and train at the right times. Now that we have the fight in August, we’ve brought a couple guys from different cities and everyone has been tested and everything has been good. I’m in my dad’s gym, so we can train whenever we want. We’ve been having a great training camp so far and now it’s just getting to the date smoothly.”
When asked about his opponent, Roamer Alexis Angulo, Benavidez stated:
“My main goal right now is to give the fans at home the best possible fight I can possibly give them. (Roamer Alexis) Angulo has a nice record, and he has a lot of knockouts. I have a lot of knockouts, so it’s going to be fireworks all night.
“I’m expecting him to come forward, this is his second world title fight. I think he’s here to make a statement and I know he’s taking this fight very seriously. I want these tough fights. I want these brawls. I want these barn burners. You don’t want to blink because this fight is going to end in a knockout.”
Like Benavidez, fans should expect fireworks. Roamer Alexis Angulo has a record of 26-1, with 22 KOs. The fight is scheduled for August 15, 2020 and with two battle fighters with high KO percentages, fight fans will be in for an action packed night.
