According to John Gonzalez of The Ringer, NBA owners donated more to Republicans than Democrats with a total of $14.9 million prior to November presidential election.
These owners support a man who stated he did more for black folks than any other president yet there are no receipts. The non-tailored suit-wearing man has yet to show up in black communities where poverty and lack of economic opportunity exist.
SI NBA writer Sam Amico reported “Furthermore, five NBA owners have contributed directly to President Donald Trump — the Los Angeles Lakers’ Jim Buss, Orlando Magic’s Dan DeVos, New York Knicks’ James Dolan, Houston Rockets’ Tilman Fertitta and San Antonio Spurs’ Juliana Holt. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Wes Edens and Marc Lasry, Washington Wizards’ Ted Leonsis, Sacramento Kings’ Vivek Ranadive, Boston Celtics’ Wyc Grousbeck and Lakers’ Jeanie Buss have donated strictly to Democrats.”
These owners know damn well they had the opportunity to pour into black-owned businesses to make an economic statement as America is responsible for the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many others. Although no one can bring them back, the NBA has bigger fish to fry internally within their league.
If an NBA owner would rather support a candidate who endorsed racism, hatred, and favoritism, their stance alongside black athletes is pointless and a waste of time. The Karen antics are full of s*** and they see every talented black person on the court as their generational wealth.
Unlike many of these owners, billionaire Mark Cuban said in an email “I strongly value my independence” per The Ringer.
Even Cuban has helped black well-rounded entrepreneurs who appeared on the TV show Shark Tank. Today would be a great day if $14.9 million were donated to help fund black-owned businesses on the come up.
