When former Toronto Raptors assistant coach Nate Bjorkgren was announced the new head coach of the Indiana Pacers in October, the Hoosier State and fans erupted in joy.
After the firing of Nate McMillian, the head coaching job was up for grabs and with candidates like Chauncey Billups and Becky Hammon, Bjorkgren’s defensive approach was in the Pacers best interest.
Bjorkgren came from a defensively sound system under Raptors head coach Nick Nurse who often utilized his players to deny, trap and consistently move on defense.
In a media interview, Bjorkgren spoke with BSO and media members about the process through training camp and how he likes to switch it up on both ends of the floor.
“95 percent of it today was on the defensive end…you know and that’s something I said to the team. It’ll be the same approach in tomorrow practice,” Bjorkgren told Pacers play-by-play announcer Chris Denari.
Expect for the Pacers to be active with quick reactions to the help side defense this season. A fast pace team who already has the physicality is likely to earn their spot on the top 10 defensive rankings list.
