Here is what happens when random thoughts are treated as factual reports.
ESPN’s David Newton gave a “BOLD PREDICTION” about what the Panthers might offer to get Deshaun Watson on NFL Live.
“The Panthers will do whatever it takes to get Deshaun Watson, and that includes giving up three first-round draft picks and (running back) Christian McCaffrey,” Newton said.” Owner David Tepper wants to win a Super Bowl. He’s made that clear. He understand it takes a marquee quarterback to do that. If you look at recent history, outside of Patrick Mahomes, the quickest way to do that is to trade for a marquee quarterback and not draft one in the first round. Just ask Tampa Bay.”
There are multiple problems with this scenario.
The first being the Bucs signed Tom Brady as a free agent and didn’t have to give up any of their marquee talents. Secondly, the Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes. Thirdly, McCaffrey’s contract would be a big problem for the Texans and lastly why would Watson waive his no-trade clause to go to the Panthers who would be giving up their best offensive player?
If the Panthers would give up McCaffrey they would have less offensive talent across the board than Texans.
This is a wishful thinking trade that will never happen and Newton himself says he was just thinking out loud and it isn’t a solid report.
Yes we were all asked to make a bold prediction. Panthers will make a strong run at Watson if available but getting him is another story. But you are right this os a bold prediction and not a report. https://t.co/5mnL9G3HVh
