Buzbee, a former marine, is a high-profile lawyer in the Houston area who has also run for public office multiple times. Most recently, he ran for mayor in Houston in 2019, ultimately losing to incumbent Sylvester Turner in a runoff in which he garnered 44 percent of the vote. During the campaign, he said if he had won, he would give away his annual salary to a “new, random Houston voter.”
