I understand a company doesn’t want infighting, but there is NO WAY in a million years if Herbstreit would have pushed back on a sexist or homophobic stereotype would ESPN had told him to chill out and leave Orlovsky alone.
Companies say they care about racism, but they really don’t.
If Orlovsky’s own co-workers and ESPN won’t hold him accountable who will?
Debate shows aside, ESPN certainly doesn’t want to see it’s reporters and media personalities publicly fueding. And so, per the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the company has spoken with both Orlovsky and Herbstreit in private. Per Jackson, neither of them will face any disciplinary action, but “management has addressed the issue with both men.”
Orlovsky didn’t even apologize for the damage he caused.
Sad, but not surprising state of affairs.
