Tips on Preserving Your Trading Cards

If you’re a fan in playing cards, then you must be having several at your disposal. Therefore you must be thinking about how to store them properly.  But cards storage is not something you can do haphazardly but there are a couple of things you need to do to ensure the collection holds its price and enjoy for many years.

Ensuring the cards are properly stored will save you a lot of money that you may spend replacing the ones that are worn out.

Here are some tips on how to preserve your trading cards

Organize the Cards

Do you have an extensive card collection? Then you need to come up with a way of sorting out those cards so when in need of some, it’s easy to access.  Nothing is more embarrassing than checking out in your card boxes without finding any- it can be very disappointing.  That’s why you must have a way of storing them.

Again, your storage system should work for you. You can organize them by team, year, player or whichever other way you think will make things easy. When you store up cards in an organized way, you’re sure that no card gets lost; that way you don’t lose money in replacing it.

Use Binders or Boxes

How extensive your cards collection is will determine the boxes or binders that you use. Take for example; you want to store a thousand cards, with a collection span dating 1950’s. Card storage boxes would be appropriate in storing those cards. Binders are durable but they are more costly and can’t hold as many cards as storage boxes would.  Think also of protecting each with a protective sleeve and place them in a trading card box.

If you don’t have many cards to store or your collection is not so extensive, you can use binders. As aforesaid, binders are quite expensive but will offer the most protection and helps you stay organized.  It’s even admirable to just sit and flip through a collection of cards from 20th century.

Use Sleeves

To prevent any damage in an easy and cost-effective manner, you can add protective sleeves. Adding a sleeve ensures that the cards’ edges don’t get worn out or bent and are protected against sun and dirt. The condition of your card determines its value and so adding sleeves will ensure your cards retain their value.

Use a Catalog

A great way to know what’s in your collection is by using a catalog. Here, you don’t have to dig through any binders or boxes. You just need to start an excel or a Google spreadsheet, then identify each card in your collection. When you need to get a specific one you’ll just pull up your spreadsheet and there it is.

A catalog will also help you if you want to get a group of Collectable sports cards from your collection. You’ve tagged each card with a specific binder and therefore as you retrieve, you know exactly which box you’ll need.

Your cards are an investment that you’d want to keep safe for the longest time. The way you store them will determine whether they will last or will fade in months. You therefore must ensure you’ve a way of storing them that will keep them safe and easy to retrieve.
