The last time that fans saw Canelo Alvarez, it was in an impressive eighth round RTD win vs Billy Joe Saunders, at AT&T Stadium, in May. That improved his record to 56-1-2, as his next fight could potentially be vs Caleb Plant.
There have been talks about Canelo and Plant on September 18 in Las Vegas, but those have apparently broken off, according to ESPN. Disagreements over contracts have been a huge factor in this. These were reportedly “passed back and forth” between Canelo’s camp and Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions over the weekend. Things ended after “multiple edit requests.”
The good news is that talks could be returning to the table soon. If plans for this September bout completely dissolve though, another option for Canelo could be him taking on Dimitry Bivol.
For Plant, he’s been very solid so far. He stands at 21-0, with him defeating Caleb Truax in LA, back in January. A fight vs Canelo would definitely get have his name ringing in the boxing world but for now, that is just a thought, amid these latest negotiations stopping.
