Gay High School Volleyball Coach Told He Had to Become Straight to Keep His Job

More and more people in athletics are becoming more comfortable about coming out regarding their sexual orientation.

For Inoke Tonga, he tried to come out as a gay man. He is a volleyball coach at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Now, Tonga is leaving his job after being told by the school not to do so, according to 9 News Denver. This school ended up saying that faculty has to agree with their Christian beliefs, but Mr. Tonga obviously didn’t align with theirs.

Last week, Tonga spoke with the school’s campus pastor and athletic director and decided to leave. He would’ve been entering his second season as head coach. This all came after a Facebook post by Tonga, where he hinted at not agreeing with the school’s beliefs about sexual orientation.

“Be gay or admit that I wasn’t gay and that I was just having what they call a spiritual battle,” said Tonga.

Tonga ended up saying how the school believes that it was a “danger” for him to be in front of the kids at that school. He added that to protect them, he couldn’t be there. He could’ve stayed, but the school said he would have to deny that he was a gay man.

“I had to denounce being a gay man, cut off any goals I had of marrying the love of my life, and delete the post and also accept their help of becoming a child of God.”

Tonga did sign an agreement before, though, agreeing with the school’s stance on their beliefs.

People use GOD for a lot of things, so be really careful when you hear stuff like that because the Bible can be used for good and evil. Remember the KKK used the Bible for their ideology.
