The justice system seriously needs to be fixed.
Hawaiian man Joshua Spriestersbach was arrested for a probation violation in 2017 and spent 2.5 years in a Hawaii State Hospital. The problem is, he shouldn’t have been there.
When police arrested him they thought he was Thomas Castleberry, a man who has been arrested before. The easiest thing would have been to compare and contrast pics to see if they look alike because they don’t but they didn’t do that. They could have also compared fingerprints since Castleberry’s were in the system already but they didn’t do that either.
When Spriestersbach went to court and denied that he was the man they thought he was they sent him to a hospital and injected him with drugs because no one wanted to do their due diligence to check to make sure he wasn’t lying.
After 2.5 years of holding him hostage, Spriestersbach was finally let go. They tried to cover it up though because he was homeless when they found him and they didn’t think anyone would believe him.
Just a horrible situation that could have easily been avoided.
