If you haven’t heard, two-time NBA champion JR Smith will officially be a part of the NC A&T Golf team. Yes, we aren’t kidding. This has been rumored for a while now, but now it’s official. If you go on their golf teams roster, you can see JR Smith’s name among the other golfers.
Many people on social media are talking about Smith’s interest in playing college golf and viewing it as a joke. Still, Smith clearly isn’t joking because he responded to a ‘House of Highlights clip that made fun of him being ‘drunk off henny’ while on campus. JR was not happy and called them out as being racist towards black men.
“Ight that Henny s**t really not funny tho can y’all try a different joke,” Smith wrote, adding that he harbors no ill will to the student who took the original video. “Not really mad at the kid honestly they gone say whatever but [House of Highlights] the disrespect y’all post it’s truly enough. As a Black man in America y’all still can’t move on from the bulls**t that people continue to put on your name! Not one positive post about going to school and trying to better myself! Y’all make it look so weak/corney to inspire my people to want to do better. You consistently bring up an post bulls**t.”
JR has a great point. In America, black men and other minority groups are not expected to become much, let alone go to college. I will be very interested to see JR and his progress as a golfer as he seems to take the sport seriously. Smith will be pursuing a degree in liberal studies.
House of Highlights deleted the post after receiving tons of backlash.
The funny thing is, JR doesn’t even like Hennessey, as he mentioned during a visit to Bleacher Report’s “The Warzone” when asked about the “Henny God” nickname that he found himself with, which stemmed from a photo that he says had nothing to do with the drink.
I don’t even drink Henny, bro…I hate that s**t.
