Jay Cutler may be MAGA, but he does appear to be a good friend.
Not too many friends, even millionaires, would just hand you a $60k check when they know you have a gambling problem, but that is what Cutler did for Brandon Marshall.
Here is the story as told by Marshall on the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast.
“I’ve never told this story before. In my third year in the league with the Broncos, I had to call Jay Cutler and ask for $60,000. I was out in Vegas, and I lost all my money,”
“I’m at the Mirage. I lose $70,000. I call my people. I’m like, ‘Yo, get me at the Wynn.’ Now, I’m chasing. So I go to the Wynn and lose another 70-something thousand dollars, bro. I’m literally in the Wynn hotel, and I call Jay. I’m like, ‘Jay, I’m in some trouble. I need $60,000.’ He’s like, ‘Aw, sheesh. B Marsh!’ He’s like, ‘All right. This is what we’re going to do, though. You’re going to sign a paper. Some type of document. You owe me.’ Soon as I landed, he had that $60,000 check. I paid the marker off. We went back into the season.”
It isn’t unusual for athletes, especially young athletes, to blow all their money the first couple of years in the league.
Just imagine if you were 22 with a million in your bank account, the wild things you would do.
Hell, imagine if you were 42 with access to that type of money, you probably would be living up at the Wynn as well.
Marshall has spoken about his struggles with mental health and the pressure of being an athlete. It is good he tells stories like this, so maybe it helps save a young athlete from making the same mistakes.
