It is still amazing to me that David Ortiz survived the hit because the shooter had him dead to rights at point-blank range.
He didn’t miss completely, but he missed enough for Ortiz to make a full recovery after about a month in the hospital.
Word on the street is Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase was hired by a drug lord named El Abuser (subtle, I know) to shoot Ortiz because Ortiz bought his wife, a Lexus.
The good news for Ortiz, he doesn’t have to worry about Rivas-Clase anymore.
Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase, known as “El Cirujano” (The Surgeon), was one of 12 men suspected of orchestrating the attempt on the retired Major League Baseball player. He was the only suspect that law enforcement was still trying to track down prior to his death. All other suspects have been jailed since the 2019 shooting.
Rivas-Clase was shot outside of a shopping center in broad daylight. Investigators reportedly found 27 shell casings at the scene of the shooting. Reports also claim Rivas-Clase was in a high-speed chase with his attackers until he crashed and was gunned down as he tried to flee.
Did Ortiz take things into his own hands because the cops couldn’t track down Rivas-Clase?
Does Ortiz have hitters like that?
We may never know.
What we do know is it appeared that the assassin could have murdered Ortiz since he shot him at point-blank range but decided instead to just try to paralyze him for life. It even looks like the assassin was trying to shoot at Ortiz’s private areas to send a message about him messing with his boss’ lady. The drug lord El Abuser had warned Ortiz many times to leave his lady alone, but Ortiz being a made man in the Dominican republic thought he was untouchable. He was not, but it does look like he got the final laugh.
