The beleaguered Nets guard Kyrie Irving has took his ball and went home, refusing to be in compliance with NYC vaccine mandates. Good news for Irving, with the election of new mayoral candidate Eric Adams, there is a chance that the cities mandates may be revisited.
In an interview on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe,‘ Adams said they would have to revisit the mandate once he is officially sworn into office next year.
“We need to revisit how we are going to address the vaccine mandates. Now, I stated I did not want to Monday-morning-quarterback the mayor [Bill de Blasio]. This is his time to be the man, he has to make the decisions,” Adams said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” per the Post.”
He also made an appearance on CNN’s “New Day,” saying,
“I hope the mayor — and I am encouraging him to do that — to sit down with unions and come to a resolution. And if he doesn’t, if this is still going to January, I’m going to sit down with them and we’re going to get this resolved.”
Despite the NBA wanting all of its players to be vaccinated, Irving could finally return back to the court if NYC decides to change their COVID vaccine mandates.
It should be noted that Adams is pro-vaccine, but he is also a former cop, which is how he was able to navigate his MAGA challengers.
I would say it is a better than 50/50 chance that he will ease the restrictions enough to allow Kyrie and others to come back to work.
They will likely have to deal with another set of rules, but they won’t have to get the shot.
Kyrie, for his part, is feeding into this hero worship that he is receiving, and now he believes he is Morpheus from the Matrix.
Wild times we are living in 2021.
