Mississippi rapper Yungen Gunnin has been convicted of second-degree murder and felony possession of a weapon after a shooting that took place in December 2018 while performing at Suga Shak. According to the report, Yungen Gunnin shot 23-year-old Da’John Mitchell in the back and four more times with a 380 pistol after the victim fell to the floor during the shootout.
Yungen Gunnin, whose real name is Jordan Johnson, was arrested on December 15, 2018, for the murder of 23-year-old Da’John Mitchell. The rapper was performing at a Louisiana nightclub when the prosecution claims he shot Mitchell.
“It was a senseless crime,” said District Attorney Brad Burget. “Either because Mr. Mitchell bumped Johnson or because of Mr. Johnson’s vanity he decided to shoot. There is no justification to take someone’s life over purported or perceived insults.”
The 23-year-old artist was arrested hours later at his Mississippi apartment after law enforcement spotted his rental car driving across the Mississippi River Bridge. Yungen Gunnin previously pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault for his role in a 2014 shooting and was released on probation months before the shooting.
Yungen Gunnin was convicted of second-degree murder and felony possession of a weapon last week.
A 25-year-old Mississippi rapper was convicted of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm last week in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana.
The conviction stems from the Dec. 15, 2018 shooting death of Da’John Mitchell, 23, of Clayton. Jordan Johnson of Natchez reportedly shot Mitchell while performing at a nightclub in Jonesville, Louisiana, called “Suga Shak.”
Authorities said Johnson was a known gang member who went by the stage name “Yungin Gunnin.” Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies in conjunction with Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies later arrested Johnson at his residence in the Holiday Apartments in Natchez after Mitchell was shot at approximately 1 a.m.
District Attorney Brad Burget, said Johnson had a person filming his performance when Mitchell allegedly bumped into a stage member and a fight between Mitchell and Johnson broke out. Johnson reportedly shot Mitchell in the back with a .380 pistol he had on him and continued to fire at Mitchell four more times after he hit the floor.
