According to multiple reports, Phil Jackson is advising the Lakers on their search for a new coach. He’s got one task and that is to advise them on getting a new coach.

Phil Jackson will be advising the Los Angeles Lakers on their head coaching search. The former Bulls/Lakers coach previously had influence on the process when the Lakers hired Frank Vogel.
“This is very much a committee in L.A. putting together this coaching search,” said Adrian Wojnarowski. “One person who is certainly significantly involved in this process is Phil Jackson. He’s got a voice in this.”
Jackson and Kurt Rambis considered hiring Vogel to become head coach of the New York Knicks before deciding on Derek Fisher.
The Lakers are expected to have a lengthy process before deciding upon their next head coach. If Phil was a bit younger and healthier, there’s no doubt he’d be the one roaming the courtside. It’s going to be an uphill battle for whomever lands it.

“And here’s a tidbit to monitor as the Lakers conduct their latest coaching search: Sources say James would be very enthused by the prospect of Mark Jackson landing the job,” The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported. “But as history tells us, that doesn’t mean it will actually happen.”
