Warriors Andrew Wiggins On How He Wishes He Never Got Vaccinated Despite Winning Championship

What a difference a year can make.

Last year, people were calling Andrew Wiggins a bust because he hadn’t exactly lived up to what everyone expected of him but now, he was an All-Star starter, an NBA champion, and played some of the best basketball of his career in the process.

That almost might not have happened, though, because, before the season, Wiggins was adamant about not wanting to get vaccinated after San Francisco had a mandate that made players have to be vaccinated in order to play there.

He eventually did get vaccinated, but he says he wishes he didn’t.

While speaking with FanSided, the new NBA champ says despite this being probably the best year of his career, he still wishes he didn’t get vaccinated because it wasn’t his choice, and that’s something he didn’t like. He also said he didn’t like that it was either get it or don’t play and doesn’t like putting that stuff in his body.

At the start of the season, Wiggins said he was torn over the decision to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Had Wiggins not gotten vaccinated, he would’ve been in the same boat as Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving in only being able to play in some of his team’s games due to local ordinances.

“I did it, and I was an All-Star this year and champion, so that was the good part, just not missing out on the year, the best year of my career,” Wiggins said. “But for my body, I just don’t like putting all that stuff in my body, so I didn’t like that and I didn’t like that it wasn’t my choice. I didn’t like that it was either get this or don’t play.”

It doesn’t matter now because it’s done, but it’s interesting.

The thing about life is we often have to do things we don’t want to do for the greater good, so while I understand him not wanting to do it, he sees how in the end, it benefitted him.
