Browns QB Deshaun Watson found out his punishment for the 24 s*xual misconduct lawsuits he had, 23 of which he has settled, and it was only 6 games.
Neither the NFL nor Watson liked the length of the suspension with the NFL thinking it was too short and Watson thinking it was too long.
In their defense for Watson, the NFLPA had a plan to defend Watson by using h0w some of the owners didn’t get that harsh of a sentence for the things they had done. They used the examples of Jerry Jones, Daniel Snyder, and Robert Kraft.
Jones, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star, said this was normal and gave his reasoning for why the punishments are different, saying:
“It is a standard players association comeback,” he told Hill. “That is the drill. That is the drill to go around to say you didn’t punish such and such. Anybody would know that every player case and every case that involves non-players in the NFL are dealing with dramatically different principle facts, which is all the difference in the world.”
Jones was accused of sexual assault by a woman in 2014, but the case was dismissed, and they reached a settlement of $2.4 million. The unfortunate part of what Jones said is that he is right. Whether we like it or not, he’s right, and when you’re an owner and in charge, the rules are different for you. That’s the reality of things, even though it shouldn’t be that way.
The Robert Kraft situation was the closest to what Watson is being accused of, with the main difference being Kraft was caught in a sting operation from the cops and didn’t have women suing him for his happening endings. Kraft’s case was eventually thrown out of court and his s*x tape was destroyed.
