If Britt Reid doesn’t get serious jail time, it will again show how the justice system is set up to protect rich white people in our country.
A young girl’s life was almost lost and will never be the same because Britt, who has had previous run-ins with the law, decided to drive drunk and on drugs. A minimum of five years in jail should be the sentence.
New details in Jackson County where Britt Reid is set to plead guilty Monday. He’s a former chiefs coach and the son of Andy Reid.
Reid is accused of driving under the influence and crashing into two vehicles near Arrowhead stadium in February 2021.
Online court records indicate Reid will enter his plea at 10 a.m. on Monday. The plea would likely circumvent the result of a traditional trial from playing out.
The former coach was charged with a DWI causing serious physical injury. Five-year-old Ariel Young was seriously injured in the crash. Young suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Full statement for attorney JR Hobbs:
“Britt Reid intends to enter his plea of guilty to the offense charged. He sincerely regrets his conduct and hopes and prays for the continued recovery for A.Y.
Mr. Reid sincerely apologizes to A.Y. and her family, and to his own family. He also extends his deep apologies to the Hunt family, the Chiefs organization and Chiefs Kingdom. Mr. Reid is sorry for his actions and hopes that his plea brings some sense of justice to all those he affected.”
According to court documents, Reid’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.113, and he was driving 84 miles an hour 1.9 seconds before the crash near Arrowhead Stadium. Officers conducting sobriety tests say Reid showed signs of impairment. One officer reported that Reid smelled of alcohol, and his eyes were bloodshot.
We will follow up on this story when Reid is sentenced.
