There probably aren’t many people who thought there would be a QB controversy in New Orleans this season, but we are approaching week eight, and there’s a minor QB controversy.
The Saints haven’t had the season they want, but some will probably tell you it’s due to injuries, and one of those injuries was to Jameis Winston, who got hurt in week 4. Backup Andy Dalton took over for him, and things haven’t looked much better, but there was a slight change in the offense.
Because of that, head coach Dennis Allen announced that even though Jameis was a full participant in practice, they would be going with Dalton because he played while Winston was out.
“Andy’s gonna get the start again this week [against the Las Vegas Raiders],” Allen said. “I feel like he’s played well. Offensively, I feel like we’re in a little bit of a rhythm. We’ve been moving the ball effectively, we’ve scored points. And so we’re gonna continue down that road with Andy as the quarterback.”
“And what I mean by that is in the last four weeks … we’re one of the top offenses in terms of moving the ball, we’re one of the top offenses in terms of scoring points,” Allen said. “And that’s really the name of the game. So we’re gonna continue doing what we’ve been doing. We’ve gotta do a better job of protecting the football. And if we do that, I think we can be highly effective offensively.”
Wonder if Jameis will be able to get the job back at some point since he was the guy they trusted going into the season.
The rule that you shouldn’t lose your job because of injuries didn’t apply here. I don’t think Jameis got a fair shot, but I feel like he is going to get another shot before the year is out.
