The fans will always be fans and have terrible ways of expressing their displeasure. Nets’ star Kyrie Irving got heckled by fans who were wearing ‘Fight anti-Semitism’ shirts at Monday’s Nets win over the Pacers.
According to the New York Post;
There were no boos or banners protesting Kyrie Irving at Monday’s Nets win over the Pacers – but there was some chirping and heckling coming from the front row.
Irving stirred up a controversy by sharing a link to a movie titled “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America” – viewed as rampant with anti-Semitic disinformation. He drew criticism from Nets owner Joe Tsai and the Anti-Defamation League, and drew some heckling from a section of fans at Barclays Center.
A group of Jewish fans were seated courtside against Indiana, wearing “fight antisemitism” t-shirts. They were ribbing the Nets star, who has shown in the past – like his verbal back-and-forth with Boston Celtics fans – that he thrives off that sort of interaction.
Irving went over to the fans and said “grateful for you guys,” according to Nets fan Ethan Schorr.
The Nets decided to fire Steve Nash after this.
The decision to part ways was mutual between the Nets and Nash, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
“We want to thank Steve for everything he brought to our franchise over the past two-plus seasons,” general manager Sean Marks said in a statement Tuesday. “Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure. Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision; however, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time.”
In a separate statement, Nash thanked Marks and team ownership for an “amazing experience with many challenges that I’m incredibly grateful for.”
