Lamar Jackson has been very active on social media over the last several weeks. Jackson has been defending himself not just from mainstream media regarding his ongoing contract negotiations with the Baltimore Ravens, but also from critics who have been trying to drag his name through the mud.
Jackson took to Twitter on Tuesday to deny allegations of him sitting out games this past season as a means to negotiate a long-term deal with the Ravens organization. To be specific, people have claimed that Lamar intentionally refused to play in games after get injured in order to show how valuable he is to the team.
Here’s what Lamar had to say in response:
“I don’t remember me sitting out on my guys week 1 vs jets To week 12 vs Broncos. How come all of a sudden I sit out because of money in which I could’ve got hurt at anytime within that time frame [thinking_emoji] When we know the Super Bowl been on my mind since April 2018.
Let’s get real. I rather have a 100% PCL than go out there and play horrible forcing myself to put my guys in a bad situation now that’s selfish to me.”
Lamar got injured in week 12 vs the Denver Broncos, then later revealed that he suffered a grade 2 PCL strain. Despite optimism from head coach John Harbaugh and officials within the Ravens franchise, Lamar did not play in the Wild Card vs the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens were 8-4 in games Lamar played, and 2-3 without him. They finished the season 10-7.
Ravens fans in his comment section disagree with his stance. NFL legend Deion Sanders had seen enough, and took to Lamar’s defense on Twitter:
“Stop explaining Yourself to fools and allow fools to be fools. A brother trying that’s strong, believes in himself and willing to stand for what he believes will always be misunderstood & judged by fools of all ethnicities. Love ya my brother and ‘I Believe in You’”
