The Mavs’ Kyrie Irving is trending after a video of him rejecting Grizzlies Dillion Brooks’ jersey during a jersey swap on live television after a game got posted to Twitter. What could have led to this embarrassment?
According to TPS;
Dallas Mavericks’ star point guard Kyrie Irving was happy to perform a jersey swap with Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Half of a traditional jersey swap, at least.
Following Monday night’s game between the two Western Conference clubs, Brooks approached Irving to swap jerseys. Though the perennial All-Star point guard was happy to give Brooks his jersey, Irving didn’t seem to have any interest in taking the former’s.
Irving has been embroiled in controversy aplenty over the past year and a half, so this apparent jersey-snubbing of Brooks’ is sure to cause more headlines.
The Grizzlies went on to defeat the Mavericks by a final score of 112-108. Brooks finished the night with nine points, five assists and four rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the Grizzlies with 28 points on the night.
Dallas kept it close without superstar Luka Doncic, who was sidelined for the game with a left thigh strain. Irving led the Mavericks with 28 points to go along with four rebounds.
Here is how Irving explained ignoring Dillon.
“I saw that after the game. I’ll probably get it next time. Probably next time. Not this time,” Irving said during his postgame press conference when asked about his interaction with Brooks. “I was really onto the next thing, thought process-wise.”
That is the same way guys say they plan on calling a girl again, but has no intentions to and will block their number as soon as they finish playing bedgammon with them.
Brooks wants to be the villain, so he can’t expect anyone to play nice with him after the games.
