Anthony Edwards was upset that the T-Wolves lost to the Nuggets in their first-round series.
Instead of hitting Karl-Anthony Towns with a chair, he decided to take out his aggression on a couple of Denver security guards.
The cops are now investigating, per Denver Sports.
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was involved in an incident that required Denver Police involvement Tuesday night following the team’s series-clinching loss to the Denver Nuggets, according to multiple sources.
Denver Police confirmed their involvement on Wednesday and said that Edwards was cited for third-degree assault following the game.
After Edwards missed the final shot that would’ve tied Game 5 and sent it to overtime, he sprinted straight off the court and into his team’s tunnel. The NBA TV broadcast appeared to catch the tail-end of the alleged incident.
Per Colorado law third-degree assault carries the punishment of up to 18 months in Jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
You can see Edwards throwing the chair as he makes his way out of the arena.
It is clear from the video that he didn’t do it on purpose and wasn’t trying to hurt the security guards, so I will assume this will get dismissed, or he will pay a small fine to make it go away.
The more interesting thing is where the T-Wolves go from here.
While there were times when the Edwards-KAT-Gobert combination worked for the T-Wolves, for the most part, it was a disaster.
They will have to figure out if they want to move on without KAT. They can trade him and possibly get back some of the draft picks they lost when they traded for Gobert.
Next year will be crucial for them. They can’t get stuck just being in the play-in games every year. They have to take that next step to the upper half of the Western Conference.
