Matthew Stafford Refused to Restructure His Contract to Help The Rams Out

The Los Angeles Rams just realized they made some terrible financial decisions in trading one of their star players, Matthew Stafford, so they approached him for a re-do deal, and as expected, the 35-year-old NFL player refused, and the Rams authorities were infuriated by his response, so they tried to trade him.

After the Super Bowl win, Stafford is not performing as well as he used to, he is growing old, hence the Rams’ decision to approach him for a re-do deal. Whatever the offer, be it a restructuring or a salary reduction, Stafford did not buy it, hence their trade dilemma. Allegedly, they offered a salary reduction for his $63 and $57 million two-year guarantee, and as expected, he didn’t take it.

According to TPS;

There were rumors this offseason that the Rams tried to trade Matthew Stafford, and it appears we now know why they were trying to make that move.

Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports has social media buzzing after he shared a tidbit of information about Stafford’s contract on his show last week. Cowherd said the Rams wanted Stafford to rework his deal but he declined, which left the team “frustrated.”

“I was told by a source I trust that they wanted to redo his contract. He wasn’t interested. It limits what they can do and they were frustrated with him,” Cowherd said. “And I could also see them next year taking a quarterback because the way to catch up in this league with personnel is rookie quarterback, go buy four good players.”

Stafford rewrote his own legacy after he was acquired via trade from the Detroit Lions and immediately won a Super Bowl ring in his first year with the Rams. His reward was receiving a massive long-term contract extension. Stafford’s deal is worth $160 million over the next four years, keeping him under contract in Los Angeles until the conclusion of the 2026 NFL season.

If the Rams trade Stafford, his $57 million guarantee is still assured, so either this is still a poor financial decision, or at this point, it appears they do not care but want Stafford gone just because he refused to buy their biased offers.
