Daniel Cormier Questions USADA’s Role in Testing Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier are two of the few fighters to hold two UFC world titles simultaneously. While the first person to do so, McGregor, has announced his return to the cage, Cormier questioned how the anti-doping protocol will be followed.

Conor McGregor appears to have bulked up massively, and it’s still unknown in which weight category he would set his comeback. Meanwhile, several people have accused him of steroid use, which obviously isn’t proven.

Now that Conor McGregor has announced his UFC return in December against Michael Chandler, he is still to be enlisted under USADA’s testing pool. MMA Veteran Daniel Cormier explained on a YouTube video how the testing can actually happen for Conor McGregor.

‘DC’ said, “There really is no base amount of test that you have to take in order to be eligible. It’s not like they say it’s six clean tests before you can fight. They may test McGregor more and maybe it’s not six months, maybe its three months and he takes as many tests as he needs to in order to be cleared to fight.”

He added, “Here’s where the issue becomes: You make that exception, then how do you implement this rule for the rest of the people?” Cormier said. “We’ve seen exceptions before, and generally, they are for the most high-profile and best fighters in the world, which – Conor McGregor does fit into that category.”

Conor McGregor has been out of the UFC since losing back-to-back lightweight contests against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and UFC 264.  He looks likely to return at 155 lbs considering the opponents he has projected.

Who Will Conor McGregor Fight in The UFC?

Following his fight against Michael Chandler, Conor McGregor has hinted at facing newly crowned BMF Justin Gaethje. Then, the Irishman wants to finish off his trilogy against Nate Diaz.

Although Nate Diaz has left the UFC, he has teased a comeback. Dana White has also called UFC to be Diaz’s ‘home’ which verifies his potential return to the MMA promotion.

A lot of it depends on how Conor McGregor performs against Michael Chandler. ‘Notorious’ hasn’t won a fight since beating Donald Cerrone in January 2020.
