Floyd Mayweather was the first man to beat Canelo Alvarez in a professional boxing fight in 2013, which Dmitry Bivol repeated by handing the Mežica star his second career loss in 2022.
Canelo couldn’t avenge his loss against Floyd Mayweather, but insisted on re-matching Bicol after the defeat in May last year.
However, Canelo Alvarez fought and beat Gennadiy Golovkin and John Ryder after losing to Bivol. While several people thought Alvarez would rematch Bivol next, he went on to dig a 3-fight deal with the PBC starting off with Jermell Charlo bout on September 30.
Reacting to the scenario, Floyd Mayweather told FightHype, “People are like, ‘Canelo is cherry-picking.’ What I have to say to Canelo is this – you’ve proved yourself already. You fought a lot of great fighters, tested yourself, went up numerous weight classes like myself and other fighters throughout the years.”
In recent times, boxing fans have also itched a potential clash between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez. Now that the Mexican boxer is in the same promotion as Benavidez, they can lock horns in the future.
As of now, Canelo Alvarez will defend his undisputed super middleweight status against Jermell Charlo, who is an undisputed champion at super welterweight. Although WBO has stripped Charlo of the title, he will still be announced as the undisputed champion on September 30.

Can Canelo Alvarez Surpass Floyd Mayweather in Boxing?
Floyd Mayweather retired unbeaten with a record of 50-0, which Canelo Alvarez wouldn’t have.

However, the 25-year-old has been in more fights and has more pro wins than Mayweather with an active 57-2-2 resume. Also, Canelo Alvarez is an undisputed champion at 168 lbs, holding all four world titles. It is a sonneting that Floyd Mayweather couldn’t achieve in his career ever.
