There’s just no denying at this point. Deion Sanders has turned the Colorado Buffaloes into a “must watch” type of team. What’s even more impressive is that he’s captured the attention of the entire country after only three weeks. Eyes started opening after the Buffs pulled the upset against TCU—last year’s runner-up in the College Football Playoffs—back in week 1.
Then, they pulled away from Nebraska in week 2 to cement another impressive win. Then came Colorado State—a game that had plenty of drama and personal animosity going into it after CSU’s Jay Norvell took a personal shot at Coach Prime over wearing a hat and sunglasses during media conferences.
A multitude of popular names and faces made an appearance during Saturday’s GameDay Kickoff in Colorado. Names such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Offset, Key Glock, Kawhi Leonard, and even Lil Wayne—who performed a concert for the CU fans. From the first pick six of the game, to the very last play in double OT, all eyes remained firmly glued on what ultimately came to be the most viewed game in ESPN history!
TMZ has the numbers here:
“ESPN — which broadcasted the 43-35 double-overtime thriller — just announced the record-shattering stats from Saturday night … reporting a whopping 9.3 million viewers checked out the matchup.
Despite the game ending two and a half hours into Sunday morning on the East Coast, the outlet states it was the fifth most-watched regular-season matchup in the network’s existence. To compare, ESPN says CFB games in that time slot last season averaged 1.7 million viewers.”
The Buffs have two major games coming up on their schedule. The first being against Oregon, and the other being against the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans. Both games can’t seem to get here fast enough, can they?
