Pop singer Madison Beer spent Sunday afternoon as one of the most-shown faces at SoFi Stadium, even as her fiancé, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, and the team dropped a 26-14 season-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
CBS cameras repeatedly cut to Beer in a luxury suite as she watched Herbert work. She wore a custom navy-and-gold No. 10 crop top with lace-up detailing, dark-framed glasses and her hair pulled up. After Herbert’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Ladd McConkey in the third quarter, the broadcast showed Beer dancing, pumping her arms and smiling. SportsCenter, NFL on CBS and the league’s official account all circulated the clip.

The attention was not subtle. Online commentary noted how often the production found Beer in the stands relative to other sideline or suite shots. One recap described the cameras as “obsessed.” Fans compared the treatment to other high-profile player-partner coverage around the league and joked that Herbert would throw for 600 yards if she attended every game. The moment also fit a broader NFL effort to feature players’ families and partners as a way to reach younger and female audiences.
The on-field result was less festive. The Cardinals, coming off a three-win season and starting first-year head coach Mike LaFleur, scored 26 points and controlled the clock. Herbert finished 17 of 27 for 209 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was sacked three times. The Chargers turned the ball over on downs twice in the fourth quarter, had a punt blocked and watched McConkey exit with a chest injury. Arizona improved to 1-0; Los Angeles fell to 0-1.
Beer and Herbert announced their engagement July 28 in a joint Instagram post captioned “Meet my fiancé.” They were first linked in August 2025 after being photographed together on a music-video set. The relationship became public that October when they kissed on the Chargers sideline before a game against Washington. Beer has attended games, practices and joint sessions since then, and Herbert appeared in her “lovergirl” video. Coach Jim Harbaugh has publicly supported the couple, including when Herbert missed voluntary offseason workouts to join Beer on tour.
Sunday was their first regular-season game as an engaged couple. Beer sat with friends, including singer Parker Winston. The suite shots and her celebration clip spread quickly on social media, with some viewers treating her presence as the most watchable part of a sloppy Chargers performance. Others pointed out the contrast: a high-visibility celebrity partner and a quarterback whose team could not convert third downs or protect the football when it mattered.

Herbert has generally kept his private life quieter than many star quarterbacks. The last 13 months have been an exception. Beer’s appearances at SoFi, training camp PDA videos and now the Week 1 broadcast package have made the couple a regular part of Chargers coverage. Whether that extra spotlight helps or distracts is a debate for later weeks. On Sunday it was simply hard to miss.
