Cooper Kupp (hamstring) has already been ruled out for the Los Angeles Rams’ game against the Seattle Seahawks in the season opener, but head coach Sean McVay indicated on Friday that there is a “definite possibility” that Kupp may wind up on injured reserve.
The Rams have until Saturday, according to McVay, to decide. Kupp would miss the first four games of the regular season at the very least if he were to be put on injured reserve.
Kupp suffered a setback with his left hamstring last week after suffering an injury to it on August 1 during a training camp practice. On Wednesday, McVay claimed that Kupp’s injury hadn’t adhered to “the standard protocol for when you’re reaggravating a soft tissue injury. McVay said
“[We’re] trying to continue to get a grasp on exactly what it is so that he can get back to feeling like the Cooper that we know and love,” “And hopefully we’ll do that.”
Hunter Long, a tight end, and Stetson Bennett, a rookie quarterback, both have injuries that might put them on injured reserve, according to McVay.
Since Week 10 of the 2022 season, Kupp has not participated in a game due to an ankle injury that ruined his season. In nine games, he had 75 receptions for 812 yards and six touchdowns. The previous year, Kupp led the NFL in catches (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdowns (16), winning the triple crown of receiving in the NFL.
