Insider Suggest Kyrie Irving Trade Deal Could Land Him in LA

An NBA insider recently predicted a blockbuster trade that could reunite Kyrie Irving with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, the Dallas Mavericks might look to move on from Irving if they underachieve again this season.

Insider Predicts Kyrie Irving-Lakers Union in Blockbuster Trade

In a mock trade outlined last month, Bailey proposed the Lakers sending Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell and a future first-round pick to Dallas for Irving. This deal would allow the Lakers to bring in Irving’s scoring punch while shedding Russell’s expiring $17 million contract. For Dallas, they would acquire young talent in Hachimura alongside draft capital.

The rationale behind the proposed trade stems from Irving’s ongoing links to the Lakers. As a former teammate of James with the Cleveland Cavaliers, there is obvious chemistry between the two superstars. Meanwhile, Russell signed a movable one-year deal with the Lakers, making him a useful trade chip. If Dallas fails to improve after last season’s disappointment, offloading Irving’s long-term salary could become more appealing.

Speculation of an Irving-Lakers reunion has lingered since he departed Boston. Their shared history of success together increases the intrigue. While just a prediction for now, Bailey’s proposed trade demonstrates a plausible path for the scenario to materialize. Much may depend on how the early part of the new season plays out for the Lakers and Mavericks. Subpar results could ignite the rumor mill and increase pressure to make a bold move like this.

Irving is owed $37 million this season and $40 million next year, with a $42.9 million player option beyond that. That kind of financial commitment may not suit the Mavericks if results do not follow. Pairing Russell and Hachimura’s salaries could match Irving’s money. It also lifts some pressure for the Lakers, who want to maximize James’ remaining championship window.
