Coach Pete Carroll announced Friday to Seattle’s 93.3 KJR-FM radio that Jamal Adams would not participate in the Seattle Seahawks‘ regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
That statement supported what had appeared expected in previous days. Since being removed off the PUP list on August 24, Adams, who missed nearly the whole of last season after ripping a quad tendon in the season opener, has only participated in walk-throughs. He has yet to participate in a practice sessions.

Carrol told the radio station
“If you watched him work out, you would not think that he couldn’t go,”
“He’s really working hard at it, but we’ve got to make sure that once he’s back, he stays back, so we’re going to be really careful with how we do that.
“It’s a long season and there will be a tremendous amount of season ahead whether it’s the first couple games or whatever. I’m not worried about it. I just want him right and really confident and ready to sustain once he gets back.”
What other options do the Hawks have?
Adams was supposed to start practicing this week, Carroll had told the media last week. The Seahawks hired former New York Giants safety Julian Love to a two-year, $12 million contract in March knowing all along that Adams might not be ready for the start of the season.
Prior to Adams’s return, Love will debut with Quandre Diggs, with a goal to play all three together in after Adams’s return. It will “be a race,” according to Carroll, for rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon to return in time for the first game.
Since re-injuring his hamstring on August 7, Witherspoon, the fifth overall pick this year, has not participated in any training.
