According to Cam Newton, David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, is considering hiring a future Hall of Famer to be his team’s head coach.
After a humiliating 17-10 road loss to the Tennessee Titans that lowered the NFL’s lowest team to 1-10, Tepper dismissed head coach Frank Reich on Monday. Since Tepper took over as owner in 2018, the Panthers have had six head coaches, including interim ones.
Speaking with Dan Katz of Barstool Sports in an episode on his YouTube channel (via Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report), Newton disclosed that Tepper is “hoping” to be hire New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
“Knowing what I do know, he’s hoping that he can land Bill Belichick. That, right there, would be a win-win-win-win for David Tepper…Tepper would give him everything that he would need.”
Following their 10-7 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, the Patriots are now 2-9 on the season, one of their worst seasons in franchise history. Numerous people anticipate that Belichick and the Patriots will part ways at the end of this season, as the team is poised for its third losing season in four years.
Belichick would undoubtedly be the most sought-after head coach in the upcoming hiring cycle if that turns out to be the case. The Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders are a few more teams that have been linked to Belichick.

Tepper let go of Matt Rhule (2022) and Ron Rivera (2019) in the middle of the season. Once again underscoring Tepper’s lack of stability in the club, Reich became the third head coach of Carolina to be sacked in the middle of the season in the previous five years.
If Belichick decides to leave the Patriots, he will receive multiple offers. Which teams will be after him, the Panthers included? Time will tell.
