After the Los Angeles Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, NFL fans are lashing out at Mark Davis and the franchise for gross financial mismanagement.
The Raiders announced their decision to terminate McDaniels and Ziegler on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday, one hour after midnight EST. The Raiders play this game one night after losing to the Detroit Lions 26-14 on Monday.
Entrepreneur and investor Joe Pompliano made an intriguing post on X regarding Davis’ poor management, and it quickly gained popularity.
Pompliano brought up the fact that the Raiders are paying McDaniels and Jon Gruden tens of millions of dollars to not even coach the Silver and Black, despite the fact that head coaching contracts in the NFL are fully guaranteed.
After his email incident, Gruden left the Raiders in the middle of the 2021 season. About $40 million in guaranteed money remained in Gruden’s contract.
NFL coaching contracts are fully guaranteed.
So with the Raiders firing Josh McDaniels last night (and Jon Gruden resigning in '21), they are now paying somewhere between $40M & $80M for them not to coach the team, depending on Gruden's settlement.
That's poor money management. pic.twitter.com/DXVVK6SA63

Fans couldn’t wait to tear into the owner following this decision.
There are 1,000 million in a billion. 120 million lost this way seems unfortunate but certainly not moving the needle

Does anyone know where to apply for the position of Not-Head Coach? Sounds lucrative!

When Davis made the unexpected decision to fire interim head coach Rich Bisaccia, who had guided the Raiders to the postseason in 2021 after Gruden’s dismissal, many were taken aback. Although Davis had high expectations for McDaniels, the veteran offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, he ended up with just nine victories against sixteen losses.
After McDaniels was fired, linebackers coach Antonio Pierce was named the temporary head coach, and Champ Kelly was named the interim general manager.
