Former Chicago Bears player Shaun Gayle’s longtime girlfriend Rhoni Reuter was murdered by Marni Yang and was jailed in 2011. But she is now back after a judge agreed to review evidence that was used to convict her.
This means that there is going to be a new trial despite being convicted and serving some time in prison. And this time, she hopes for a better and fair trial.

TPS reports that;
Yang, convicted in 2011 of killing the longtime girlfriend of Chicago Bears star Shaun Gayle, is hoping for a favorable ruling that would give her some hope of being released from prison at some point.
At the time, prosecutors argued Yang was in a jealous rage. But her attorneys say there is new evidence and they claim Yang’s confession was coerced. In a 2022 interview, Yang claimed that she “made up everything” in her confession because she was trying to protect her children.
She even accused police of threatening to arrest her son for the murder of Rhoni Reuter if she did not confess. The year prior, the Chicago Tribune reported that Yang claimed she knew she was being recorded when she confessed to what she did to a friend who was wearing a wire.
She also stated she informed her father in a recorded phone call that she planned to lie about the murder to protect her children.
According to Yang’s attorney Jed Stone;
“They’re going to say science proves she could not have committed this crime and the evidence points to another suspect.”
Once Judge Christopher Stride has agreed to “allow a rehearing of several pieces of evidence”, then there is going to be a new trial.
The next hearing will be in January where the judge will “announce his decision about whether to reconsider Yang’s confession and the forensic evidence.”
We are waiting for what this new trial brings and it’s two things, either she will still be convicted of the crime or get freed after pieces of evidence have been reviewed.
