According to Mark Cuban, he was contacted with an opportunity to purchase a minority ownership in an NFL franchise, but he declined it.
Although he acknowledged he didn’t think he could commit, Cuban told former NFL wide receiver Julian Edelman he had an opportunity to purchase into the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cuban just had the NBA authorize the sale of his controlling stake in the Dallas Mavericks.
You would think that the former majority owner of the Mavs, who was born in Pittsburgh, would seize the chance to acquire a stake in the NFL team. However, that was untrue. He said ,
“I could never really afford the NFL,” “You have to be all in and they never really come up for sale a lot.” “I had an opportunity to buy into the Steelers, a minority owner contacted me about selling and I just didn’t want to be a minority owner,” “Then David Tepper bought the Panthers and they reached out to be at one point, but I wasn’t into it.”
Although Cuban no longer owns the majority of the Mavs, he still has a minority ownership that gives him control over day-to-day operations. If you ask us, this seems like a pretty fantastic offer.
