A lot of criticism is being directed at Adam Schefter for what he put on X on Thursday.
David Shaw has been interviewed by the Chargers for the head coaching vacancy, the team announced on Thursday. David Shaw conducted an in-person interview with Los Angeles, the team said on Thursday.
When Adam Schefter of ESPN first announced the interview, he included an additional segment that offended some people.
“Chargers completed an interview with David Shaw for their head coaching job,” Schefter wrote. They’re now in compliance with the Rooney Rule.”

He further stated,
“Former Stanford HC David Shaw has long been a target of NFL teams. In the past, he has resisted NFL overtures. But now, in back-to-back years, he has been interviewed for the Broncos and Chargers head coaching jobs.”
He made an effort to retract what he had said, but the initial tweet had already caused harm.
This is what the fans felt about all this :

Why the hell do we keep doing this? Stop. Please stop saying “in compliance with the Rooney rule” after a Black coach is interviewed.
You look horrendous when doing it and I’m not sure why more of your colleagues don’t call you out. It shouldn’t happen. https://t.co/BkcZcXR3UR

Shaw was a Stanford coach from 2011 until 2022 before this. He was Harbaugh’s replacement when the former left the school in 2011 to seek a head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers.
Shaw was also Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator at University of San Diego (2006) and Stanford (2007–2010). The Chargers also conducted interviews with Harbaugh earlier this week in hopes of hiring him as head coach.
Shaw has reportedly had two NFL interviews in as many seasons. Prior to the team’s decision to trade for head coach Sean Payton, he had an interview for the head coaching position with the Denver Broncos in 2017. Shaw spent twelve seasons at Stanford with a 96-54 record. He is the program’s most successful head coach ever.
