The roster adjustments required by the Detroit Lions to get players back from injuries are beginning to be made. The team lost a former Super Bowl pass rusher on Wednesday.
Bruce Irvin, a linebacker with the Detroit Lions, announced on social media that he would be moving on from the team and using his skills elsewhere.
Irvin did not free up a spot on the 53-man roster because he was a member of the team’s practice squad.
@Lions – as a 12 year vet, thank you for the opportunity to be apart of your team- however I’m looking forward to what’s next

A mutual parting on good terms for Bruce Irvin and the #Lions, who released him from the practice squad today. https://t.co/srGuqR9OSx

Detroit was able to promote him as many times as they wanted in the postseason without having to sign him to the 53-man roster, so this move is surprising.
In his three game appearances for the Lions this season, Irvin only managed one sack and five pressures.
The Lions will host a postseason game at Ford Field the following week after wrapping off the regular season against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. They are now the third-seeded team in the NFC, and if that standing continues, it looks like they will play either the Rams or the Packers.
With a victory over Minnesota and defeats by the Cowboys and Eagles, they have a remote chance of securing the second spot.
