Jones began the game with Luka Doncic, Josh Green, Dereck Lively II, Grant Williams, and Green. At the start of the second half, Dante Exum took Jones’ spot.
Kyrie Irving (right thumb sprain), Maxi Kleber (right small toe dislocation), and Dwight Powell (left eye corneal abrasion) were all sidelined going into the Mavericks game against the Hawks. It is unclear how serious Jones’ injury is until more details are obtained. Mavs coach Jason Kidd said,
“Next man up mentality,” “Every time we feel like we’re getting healthy, we take a step or two back. It’s just part of the game, you got to go with the guys in uniform [and] put those guys in a position to be successful, support them, be positive, and try to find a way to win on the road.”
Dallas may find it difficult to manage another injury on Saturday night as the Mavericks play the Sacramento Kings at American Airlines Center on the opening night of a back-to-back.
