‘Fresh Start’ for the Seahawks Could Come from Jalen Hurts Trade, per NFL Insider

After coach Pete Carroll was fired, the Seattle Seahawks are embarking on a new chapter in their history. However, an NFL source believes that this “fresh start” could take several forms, even though he hasn’t seen any supporting data yet.

On his podcast on Wednesday, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk conjectured that the Philadelphia Eagles’ recent sacking of offensive coordinator Brian Johnson might cause Jalen Hurts to become “unhappy” and perhaps even lead to a trade. After one lackluster season, there hasn’t been any indication that Hurts would suddenly want to leave Philadelphia, but Florio believes the dominoes could start to fall, and if they do, the Seahawks would be a team to watch.

Florio spoke about the trade,

“I’m not saying it will (happen), I’m not saying it should. I’m saying it could,”

“He could say ‘I want out.'”

“ … You can throw the Seahawks in as well, depending who the new head coach is,”  “You got Geno Smith, where you have an opportunity to get out of the contract, and you could bring in Jalen Hurts if the new head coach decides ‘I think we can make things very special here with Jalen Hurts if he wants out of Philadelphia and needs a fresh start.’”

Given that Hurts and Johnson have been friends for a “very, very long time” and that the quarterback brought up Johnson when discussing how the Eagles were “fixing everything,” many people assumed that Hurts had accidentally disclosed that Johnson would be coming back for a second season after joining the team as the quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia. Florio makes this point clear.
